Just wanted to share with everyone.
From Christie Vilsack
The support Iowans from across the state have shown my campaign is truly humbling. I’m proud to say that thanks to you we’re in a great position headed into the 2012 election year.

Today, we announced that our campaign has raised $400,000 in the 4th quarter of 2011 bringing the total raised for 2011 to over $1 million. Our cash on hand for the year totals over $750,000.

As I continue to travel across Iowa’s Fourth District announcing policy proposals including doubling apprenticeships for Iowans, advancing economic development and job creation by investing in infrastructure, and advocating for Missouri River flood relief, it’s your support that motivates me to go to Washington to fight everyday to ensure the best policies, not politics, are put in place to ensure future generations can work and raise a family in Northwest Iowa.

Thanks again.

Sincerely,

Christie

I wanted to share this article written by James King in Phoenix with the Phoenix New Times.

Maybe Iowa Congressman Steve King didn't get a chance to read the Department of Justice's scathing 22-page report on Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his agency's historic racial profiling paractices -- because that's the only logical explanation for why he produced a Youtube video defending the sheriff, and is calling him an "ardent defender of liberty and a champion of immigration law."

A lone congressman acting as a Joe Arpaio apologist wouldn't be so bad...if Congressman King wasn't the vice chairman of the House Immigration Subcommittee on Immigration Policy and Enforcement.

The DOJ, as you know, released its report on the MCSO last week and came to the conclusion that the agency -- under Arpaio's (ahem) leadership -- is guilty of the worst racial profiling practices in U.S. history.

According to King, though, "[Arpaio] takes great pains to make sure that he doesn't discriminate against people based on race."

King goes on, claiming that he knows that "there is not a profiling operation going on down [at the MCSO] that I can see, but I can see that [the Obama administration] has a political agenda that's working against a man who stands up for the law. I defend Joe Arpaio; I think he needs to continue with the tent city."

We contacted King's Washington D.C. office to ask whether the congressman had even read the DOJ's report. We'll let you know if we hear back.

Western Iowa has waited for someone like Christie for many years; for nearly a decade we’ve hoped and prayed for real representation in our rural communities and cities.

Witness part of history as western Iowa doesn’t just begin a new chapter with Iowa’s future “first female U.S. Representative,” but a page-turning whole new era with Iowa’s strongest and toughest advocate leading the way.
